Mission Impossible series was never known for a riveting story, but franchises like these depend on elaborate stunt sequences, novelty in action and punchlines. But sadly, this movie falters big time in all departments. Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise have collaborate successfully before on movies such as well-adapted Jack Reacher and an intelligent futuristic movie Edge of Tomorrow, and hence not surprisingly Tom Cruise asks his new found friend to direct the Mission Impossibleseries. But Christopher McQuarrie has wasted the talents of Jeremy Renner , Simon Pegg and Alec Baldwin in what could have been an entertaining movie. The story is a simple story of how CIA convinces the government to scrap the IMF in which Tom Cruise and his friends are saving the world using unorthodox methods, and declare Tom Cruise as a fugitive. Tom Cruise in the meanwhile tries to pin down the international terrorist organization 'Syndicate' which surprisingly the CIA is not aware of. Travelling through Vienna, Morocco, and London, the film manages to stutter to the end testing viewers patience till the very end. The hyped REAL stunt of Tom Cruise'hanging by the plane looks better in the Making of the Movie, then to absolutely waste it as the first scene of the movie. Tom Cruise looks aged and tired in his role of Ethan Hunt, and as mentioned before Jeremy Renner and Alec Baldwin are assigned to roles in the office rather than in the stunts. You look out for Simon Pegg for his infectious energy to make this film watchable, but the director has totally wasted his presence by giving him awful scenes. Amongst the 5 Mission Impossible movies, I would rate this as fourth, just a little better than Mission Impossible 2. Wish the writers could have not done a hasty job and would have written a coherent entertaining movie. But this is a money spinning franchise , and I am pretty sure Mission Impossible 6 would be made. Hope the director adapts another Jack Reacher movie in the meanwhile.
